Natural Resource Management : Tube-well recharge technology
Brief Description
Climate change is likely to threaten the food security and livelihood of millions of people in India. It is therefore important that to enhance the resilience of India Agricultural production system to climate variability and climate change. Resilience is the capability of the production system to resist the negative impacts of climate change and also capacity to recover quickly after the damage.
Therefore, there is a need for using modern science combined with indigenous wisdom of the farmers to enhance the resilience of agriculture to climate change.
Due to change in climatic condition and rainfall, district climate changed from last ten years extremely during summer and extremely cold during winter. The period of monsoon is very short. From last ten years rain fall is very less, dry spell are more and also uneven distribution of rains.
Domain Area
Based on findings and usefullness of recharging tube well Indigenous wisdom of farmers with scientific modification are used to design low cost recharging structure of tube well. Whole sitara village was covered(60 tubewell).
Extent of Adoption
Farmers are very happy to adopt this modified technology, as they irrigate best quality water to rabi crops, learn crop water requirement. This project created awareness among farmers as helps to solve most prominent problems of water, enhances, people participation in water conservation and started looking and adopting various farm practices related to collection storage and in-situ-moisture conservation practices.
Impact
- Water table is risen significantly (5 to 6 ft. )
- It collects nearly 3000 cubic metre of rain water and continuously deliver in tube wells.
- The store water is used for irrigation purpose during dry spell as protective irrigation.
- Due to recharge of tube well and availability of water farmers cultivating wheat, barley and vegetables other than mustard.
- Run off water continuously delver in tubewell, helps farmers to pre-irrigate the field for sowing the rabi crops when September rains are not received.
- Area of wheat, Barley, increased due to availability of water.
- Also reduces cost of irrigation.
- Soil salinity decrease due to good quality irrigation water.
Economics
Estimated Cost- Rs. 10,000/-
25 per cent of total cost and labour is share by farmer.
Time required for construction - Two days
- Water made available to irrigate 242ha land out of 365ha
- Major crops in the rabi season viz.; wheat, mustard, barley etc minimized 90% of the yield losses due to availability of recharged ground water (8-10ft).
Constraints
No Constraints in adopted this technology
Up-Scaling
60 tubewell recharged in village sitara 2015-16.Near by farmers of other villages are adopted this technology.
Roof Water Harvesting(Natural Resource Management)
In NICRA Village there is Problem of drinking water for humans as well as for animals and for other house hold works. No Roof water harvest structure in village.and they have no knowledge and awareness regarding roof water harvesting for solving the problem of water availabilty roof water structure are constructed .A rainwater harvesting system consists of three basic elements: a collection area, a conveyance system, and storage facilities. The collection area in most cases is the roof of a house or a building. The effective roof area and the material used in constructing the roof influence the efficiency of collection and the water quality.
Domain Area
20 Tanks (capacity 5000 Litre) were constructed, it helps to provide non contaminated drinking water to the villagers and animals.
Extent of Adoption
With availability of safe water for drinking for humans and animals with the help of Roof water harvesting people of NICRA Village and near by villages are adopt this technology.
Impact
Availability of safe drinking water for animals.
Efficient use of the rain water for other house hold works.
Due to safe drinking water health of animals improved ,increases milk productivity.
Economics
Rainwater harvesting provides a source of water at the point where it is needed. It is owner operated and managed.. The systems can be built to meet almost any requirements. Poor households can start with a single small tank and add more when they can afford them.
Constraints
Low storage capacities will limit rainwater harvesting so that the system may not be able to provide water in a low rainfall period. Increased storage capacities add to construction and operating costs and may make the technology economically unfeasible, unless it is subsidized by government
Up-Scaling
Minimised the wastage of water . The concentration of contaminants is reduced significantly by diverting the initial flow of run-off water to waste.
Spray of Growth Regulator & Micronutrient( Crop Production)
Today scarcity of rainfall temperature rises up this resulted the risk under force maturity and water stress condition in crops .To overcome this problem spray of growth regulator and Micronutrient on crops helps to face the situation .
Domain Area
Thio urea @0.2 & 0.1% and 0.2
